God

If you've read anything up until now you probably know I have a small bone to pick with organized religion. The way religions have divided this planet and fueled global conflict is something that I struggle to appreciate and it seems to me that most religions are overrun with pious hypocrisy. That doesn't mean they don't have some things correct. I was raised in an atheist household but I've recently decided to at least open my mind to the big man (or woman). I believe there is a source that all creation stems from and it goes by many names depending on the perspective you are coming from. God, the creator, source, the big bang, the vortex, the light, the divine manifestation. I don't really care what you call it but I think it's worth talking about it. I've decided to add a page on here to hear out some different perspectives and explain my personal understanding of God.

My Take

Before I recommend some videos, let me lay out my beliefs on God. Like most mystics, I believe that all is God. Everything you are, every person you've met, and every place you've visited is a manifestation of God's mind. The energy of God is an imaginative force that exists across all dimensions of creation. I believe that this force has spread itself out across endless cosmos and that no one should claim to understand the full extent of it's raw creative power. We should not pretend to be smarter than the forces which created us, although those same forces exist within us. In order to understand what God really is, it is necessary to detach oneself from the limiting beliefs being pushed through our education systems. Start by rejecting the notion that you are merely a biological being existing within a sheerly physical universe. This is no longer accurate, even from the most scientific of perspectives. Instead, consider that each of us holds the light of God within. God has the power to create, to imagine, to manifest, and to spread love with everything it comes in contact with. Similarly, you have the power to create, to imagine, to manifest, and to spread love. This is because, in a sense, you are God. When God spread out across the cosmos it was not enough to form planets, stars, black holes, and nebulas. God also wanted to experience creation. God dreamed up an earth filled with oceans, deserts, and volcanoes but the landscapes alone weren't enough. God didn't just want to let the oceans sway back and forth under the moons pull. God wanted to swim, and so he spoke fish and whales and dolphins into existence. These creatures are not separate from God. They are God in disguise. When a shark eats a tuna it is actually God eating God because God was hungry and God was too slow to escape. In the same way that God breathed life into aquatic creatures, God also breathed life into us. God didn't just want to craft breathtaking mountains and cover them with snow. God also wanted to ski down its slopes. God wanted to golf and paraglide and paint pictures. God wanted to love other creatures on earth from a human perspective. God also wanted to build rocket ships and microscopes. God is too complicated to be put in a box. God likes to party, make music, and share stories. God also likes to have sex. Sometimes God even likes to take drugs. Do not let anyone convince you that God is a white dude sitting in the clouds judging your every move. That "God" was created to control you by judgmental white dudes. Many "holy men" project their own close-mindedness onto God and beg you to accept their judgment because they fear their place in a world that doesn't. Stop listening to other people telling you what God wants and start listening to your own passion and intuition. What makes your soul happy? What makes you come alive? That is the God within you.

"The thing to do, it seems to me, is to prepare yourself so you can be a rainbow in somebody else's cloud. Somebody who may not look like you. May not call God the same name you call God - if they call God at all. I may not dance your dances or speak your language. But be a blessing to somebody. That's what I think." - Maya Angelou

"The fewer our wants the more we resemble the Gods." - Socrates

"The poets are only the interpreters of the Gods." - Socrates

"Believe in God like the sun up in the sky. Science can tell us how but they can't tell us why." - J. Cole

“Follow your heart. Don’t follow what you’ve been told you’re supposed to do.” – J Cole

I'd like to start by giving a shout out to Matthew McConaughey. If a person is going to talk about God this is the energy that they should embody. One thing he mentions in this speech which I really resonate with is when he says, "It is a scientific fact that gratitude reciprocates".

One of my favorite perspectives is that of Matt Kahn. I think he has a freshly mystical take on God, the afterlife, and the path we are currently walking. However, if the words "hologram" or "Pleidian" are triggers for you then I suggest moving along.
